Bell & Howard Chevrolet teams up with Iredell Parks and Recreation Department to help raise thousands of dollars for youth soccer program

Statesville, Sep. 12, 2011 – In the spirit of teamwork taught by youth sports, Bell & Howard Chevrolet is teaming up with Iredell Parks and Recreation Department to provide their players and coaches with soccer kits filled with equipment bags, soccer balls, sport cones, scrimmage vests and t-shirts, a sponsorship check and an opportunity to help them raise funds.

Iredell Parks and Recreation Department will have the opportunity to raise as much as $10,000 through a fundraising opportunity where one lucky recipient will win his or her choice of a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox or Cruze. Another lucky winner will receive a Home Entertainment Package.

Bell & Howard Chevrolet and other Charlotte-area Chevrolet dealerships are donating these prizes to participating leagues in the area. One-hundred percent of the proceeds collected from the fundraiser go directly to the leagues. The funds may be used in any way the league chooses.

A one-time sponsorship check will be presented by Bell & Howard Chevrolet to Iredell Parks and Recreation Department. The league also will have an opportunity to raise additional funds for their use as part of a Chevy Youth Soccer Fundraiser.  Sponsored leagues across the country will each receive 2,000 fundraiser entry tickets to distribute for a suggested donation, and the league will keep 100% of the proceeds raised.  At the end of the fundraiser, there will be four winners of a Chevy Equinox or Chevy Cruze vehicle of choice (up to $24,995 in value), and in each participating market there will be a secondary prize of a home entertainment center valued at $1,000.

Some leagues plan to grant scholarships to families who cannot afford to enroll their children in the league, while others will use the funds to improve fields and equipment.

“We are proud to be able to help the kids in our community by donating equipment and giving them the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for their league. We are excited to be part of the effort this year, and anticipate a fun-filled season with Iredell Parks and Recreation Department” said Ashley High, Marketing Director for Bell & Howard Chevrolet.

About Bell & Howard Chevrolet

In 1927, the Chevrolet Franchise in Statesville was held by Morrow Motor Company. Mr. Morrow sold out to C. A. Kyles who held the franchise until 1932 when it was purchased by Mr. Coleman Deal. Mr. Deal was the Chevrolet dealer until the fall of 1935, when he sold out to Mr. J. F. Scarborough.
Scarborough Chevrolet Company experienced a steady growth throughout the years and expanded their building facilities located at South Meeting Street and Sharpe Street. To meet the growth of Statesville and the surrounding area, a new showroom was added, a new separate body shop was added and the last new addition was a new service department, which was built in 1955.
In October, 1957, Mr. Scarborough decided to sell his business. Mr. E. R. Bell and Mr. W. P. Howard purchased the entire assets of Scarborogh Chevrolet Company on October 1, 1957. Mr. Bell had been employed with the old company for several years as a new car sales manager. Mr. Howard had been associated with Abernathy Chevrolet, Inc., in Hickory, North Carolina from 1955 to 1957, and prior to that had been with McHenry Chevrolet, Inc., in Hickory, North Carolina.
The new owners kept the name of the old company until March 1, 1971, when the name was changed to Bell & Howard Chevrolet, Inc.
It wasn’t long before the company began to grow at a rapid pace, and the new owners felt that eventually the company would have to move out if they were going to have the room necessary for the company to grow and serve its customers. With this in mind, the company purchased in 1961 a tract of land outside the city on Interstate Highway 40 near Highway 21.
In August, 1970, the company signed the contract for the present facilities and the building was completed March 1, 1971.
In February, 1989 Mr. E. R. Bell passed away and the partnership assets were purchased by Mr. Howard who continues to serve as President of Bell and Howard Chevrolet Cadillac.
Our dynamic growth is a direct result of our fine and loyal employees. Their ethical business practices and sense of community leadership have worked hand-in-hand in building a company we can all be proud of.

Bell & Howard Chevrolet Donates More Than $3,300 in Cash and Sports Equipment to North Piedmont Babe Ruth

Bell & Howard Chevrolet, one of 26 Chevrolet dealers from the Charlotte area that partnered with local youth baseball leagues for the 2010 baseball season, raised nearly $85,800 in total donations from the dealership and private parties. In addition to monetary support, Bell & Howard Chevrolet provided North Piedmont Babe Ruth with equipment donations, an opportunity to raise (and keep) up to $10,000 through a unique fundraiser, and participation in a baseball clinic led by Ripken Baseball.

“Chevrolet has a long history with baseball and we’re glad we were able to bring that commitment to our youth leagues in Statesville where our customers and their families live, work, and play,” said Rhyne Scott for Bell & Howard Chevrolet. “The instructional clinic was the highlight of the season for many of the kids.  They had a blast – and, frankly, we did too.”

Bell & Howard Chevrolet partnered with the North Piedmont Babe Ruth because of their proximity to the dealership. Equipment donated by Bell & Howard Chevrolet included equipment bags, ball buckets, coach’s clipboards and t-shirts. In addition, the dealership  helped donate either a Chevy Malibu or a Chevy Equinox to be used as a fundraiser by the league. The winner of the fundraiser got to choose one of the two vehicles.

“We are delighted to be involved with the American tradition of youth baseball,” said Rhyne, of Bell & Howard Chevrolet. “Sponsoring North Piedmont Babe Ruth gave us the opportunity to illustrate our commitment to the youth and families in Statesville and we’re glad to have achieved such a positive outcome for the community.”

In 2010, more than 980 Chevrolet dealers participated in Chevy Youth Baseball and helped raise more than $3 million for youth baseball programs across the USA. Now in its fifth year, more than $11 million has been contributed to youth baseball in the communities where Chevrolet’s customers live, work, and play.
